Makarska Riviera is part of the coastal belt of central Dalmatia, about 60 km long and 3 km wide. In the embrace of the majestic mountain Biokovo (1762 m) and bathed in the sun for more than 2700 hours a year, with an average temperature higher than 20 ° C, Makarska Riviera is a real small Mediterranean paradise.
The beautiful clear sea boasts an annual average temperature higher than 20 ° C. The sea temperature in summer ranges between 25 ° C and 27 ° C. Winters are extremely mild and sunny, and summers are long and warm with a refreshing mistral, a wind that unobtrusively brings natural refreshment from the open sea, much needed in the summer. Other winds include bora (north wind), which brings cold, and jugo, a warm wind from the sea that brings moisture, and is extremely popular among fans of water sports such as sailing, surfing and kiting.
The center of the Riviera is the town of Makarska, which gravitates to a number of picturesque settlements in this area. Northwest of Makarska are Brela, Baska Voda, Promajna, Bratus, and Krvavica. Southeast of Makarska are Tucepi, Podgora, Drasnice, Igrane, Zivogosce, Blato, Drvenik, Zaostrog and Gradac.
During the tourist season, in all places of the Makarska Riviera, various events are held – cultural, entertainment, sports, recreation … These are the days of traditional folk festivities when the patrons of the place and the days of the glorious past are celebrated. In addition to festivities and folk festivals, “Fishermen’s Nights” and other entertainment and sports events are usually organized, which are held in ports, on beaches or on hotel terraces. In Makarska, all events are included in the “Makarska Summer” program, of which the most visited are “Fishermen’s Nights”, “Summer Carnival” and “Night of Kalelarga”. There are many other performances of popular and classical music with performances by famous klapas, singers and folklore groups from the country and the world, which are usually held on Kačić Square, on the waterfront, but also other suitable stages such as in front of the church of Sv. Petra on the peninsula of the same name.
